“Live with intention. Walk to the edge. Listen hard. Practice wellness. Play with abandon. Laugh. Choose with no regret. Appreciate your friends. Continue to learn. Do what you love. Live as if this is all there is.”
~ Mary Anne Radmacher

Since my daughter was very young it’s been my plan to live a lighter, freer lifestyle once she was grown and I was older. As a young, single parent I had to have a hustle to take care of her and provide, life wasn’t always easy and I knew that once I got her where she needed to be I wanted to coast, to relax, to live an easier life. The initial thought was that I’d buy an RV and travel the country with it, however that dream started to change as I saw the costs of the RVs I liked. I knew I wasn’t giving up on my dream, but I’d have to figure out another way to get to there.

Without a huge savings or a big retirement plan that meant I needed to have a plan for downsizing my expenses to get to a lighter lifestyle and that’s been my plan over the last 10 years. Our culture and community leans more toward owning bigger and better as you make more, my thoughts have been to own less over time. I want the easy life, the time to enjoy life more – to see more of what life is about and you can’t do that when you’re tied down to expenses. The day I stumbled on tiny houses I knew I’d found the way I was going to get there.

I knew with my decision to go tiny I was bucking the norm, I knew not everyone would understand it – that people might assume I was experiencing a hardship. I never cared. My tiny house dream was mine, something that supported the vision I have for my life. It’s easy to get caught up in wondering what other people will think, it takes courage to do something that’s different from the masses. At the end of the day your dreams and happiness are what are most important and sometimes that means deviating from the norm… Don’t let others dictate your dreams.

My tiny house doesn’t mean I gave up on anything. It was designed to accommodate my needs and lifestyle and to include everything I need to be happy in my home. My style is urban chic, my tiny house is urban chic. When I look around I don’t feel or see dreams deferred, I see an opportunity to achieve many more dreams, to travel more, to enjoy life and the things that are important to me more. I didn’t settle for this lifestyle, I purposely chose it. For me this is an intentional lifestyle.

Live with intention. Follow your dreams.
